Open Access Subjects

In addition to school offered subjects we are able to access other subjects through Open Access. This involves an online lesson once a week with students focusing on areas of particular interest. Technology plays a huge part in the presentation of curriculum materials. All work is assessed by a teacher at Open Access College, Marden.

Opportunities

Students wishing for University entry at the end of Year 12 will find studying at RDAS to be quite competitive with the metropolitan area. This is because country students attract bonus points for being in a remote location. Subjects studied by Open Access also attract extra points.

Year 12 students all have access a Year 12 Room that creates a pleasant learning environment for students to study.

Student Voice

An active Student Voice is established across the school from all years of schooling. Senior students are expected to provide leadership for House competitions, assemblies and sporting opportunities. School Captains are selected annually and play a key role in representing the school. In 2012 the School Captains established a leadership group to equip future leaders with skills and a working knowledge of the role.

School Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships

There are considerable opportunities for Year 11 & 12 students to begin their careers by choosing to do a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship. Students join the workforce while at the same time completing their SACE. The program involves a minimum one day per week in the workforce as well as study modules to gain TAFE accreditation.

Sports

Roxby Downs Area School offers opportunities for students to participate and support a range of sports at school, the district and at regional levels. ie WASSAC.

Students also participate and support the RDAS Sports Day and Swimming Carnival. These days combine competition with fun and are enjoyed by all. House Captains are elected from eligible year 11 and 12 students.
