Information for Parents
The school has been working towards implementing a new ordering process for student lunches. The key aspects to the new system are as follows:
- Parents will need to download the Qkr! app (available for iOS and Android) and register as per the attached instructions, you will then have the capacity to order lunches for your children through the app.
- The app allows you to pre-order multiple days ahead.
- If you order lunches through the app process, all orders would need to be received by 9.15am on the day.
- This new system will be run in conjunction with the old system. Parents wishing to continuing to order lunches in the traditional way will be able to continue doing so.
Any queries please call Bev at the front office on 8671 0011.

Bring Your Own Device
**Our BYOD Policies for 3-6 and 7-12 are currently under review in 2019** – Please contact the school purchasing any new devices
BYOD in Years 3-6
Our BYOD policy for years 3-6 is currently being re-developed.
In the meantime, 3-6 students still are welcome to bring to school their own iPad device (or Windows device in 5/6 classes) to use for school-purposes, please contact your class teacher for further information regarding this. Lockable storage is provided in all 3-6 classrooms for these devices.
BYOD in Years 7-12
Our BYOD program has been in place at Roxby Downs Area School since the beginning of 2015.
RDAS recommends Microsoft Windows-based laptops, however students are welcome to bring almost any device they choose provided the battery can last the school day, it connects to the schools network, and has a keyboard. RDAS does not currently recommend the purchase of Chromebook’s for use at RDAS. Students get their devices setup by the school’s IT team and parents can contact the school if they are unsure on what device to purchase.
Students are provided a filtered internet connection, web-based access to the schools file server, and printer access. The full Microsoft office 365 suite of programs is available for all students free of charge, and are able to install it on up to 5 devices at a time, this includes 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage. Students can also request access to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products if required for school use.
Please contact the school if you have any queries or questions in relation to BYOD.
Recommended Minimum Requirements
All day battery life (8+ hours advertised is preffered)
Wireless AC Standard
If a Windows device – Version 10 Home, Pro etc is recommended (Not 10 S, 8.1 RT)
Mac Devices – updated to at least 10.9 (Mavericks) latest OS always preferred.
Chromebooks currently not supported
Up to date Anti Virus
**Tip if purchasing devices – Devices with an “SSD” hard drive, although having less storage per $, they will run faster and have improved battery life.
We have teamed up with CompNow to provide an alternate purchase option if you are looking to buy a new BYOD device, these devices are built for education and can be purchased with a 3 year business grade warranty, as well as Accidental Damage plans and accessories. You can access the purchase portal here – https://shop.compnow.com.au/school/roxby-downs – please note by using this portal you are purchasing the device directly from Computers Now and not Roxby Downs Area School.
From 1st March 2017, RDAS parents/caregivers will be asked to order the majority of their uniform purchases online, through Devon Clothing. Having Devon clothing manage the large proportion of our stock will be a considerable saving to the school in both time and money. We will; however, continue to stock the complete range of lines and sizes at school. The purpose for maintaining this stock is:
- To allow students to try on sizes before ordering online if unsure of the sizing’s’, and
- To ensure that any new students can be provided with the full uniform when they enrol.
Uniform Shop Opening Times (During School Term)
TUESDAYS 3:00pm – 3:30pm
Additionally, the school also manages a closed Facebook group for Buy, Swap & Selling of 2nd hand RDAS uniforms – the page can be found here

RDAS Governing Council has concluded via a review that the Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) service is no longer a financially viable service. At an extra ordinary Governing Council meeting on the 25th July 2019, a motion was moved and carries that the RDAS OSHC service move towards a cessation of service with the last day of service being Friday the 13th of September (Term 3 Week 8).
Moving forward, out of school hours care services are available to families by the Roxby Downs Children’s Centre. Over this transition period, our OSHC team will work closely with the Roxby Downs Children’s Centre to ensure a smooth transition for families requiring care which will include a quality school holiday program.
(RDAS finishes a week earlier in Term 4 than most SA schools)
