School Canteen
Winter Canteen Menu (Term 2 & 3 2021)
The school canteen operates Monday to Friday during recess and lunch times. Lizzie Bancroft is the Canteen Manager and always welcomes parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact the school on 8671 0011 or email Lizzie at lizzie.bancroft569@schools.sa.edu.au Please note all volunteers will be required to have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC).
Roxby Downs Area School follows the Right Bite strategy which promotes healthy eating and good nutrition for students. The Right Bite strategy uses a colour spectrum Green, Amber and Red to identify food and drink according to there nutritional value. You will find this information clearly labelled on our canteen menu.
- GREEN foods (every day) are the best everyday choices for schools and they should make up the majority of your canteen menu. These foods are excellent sources of nutrients and typically reflect the five food groups in the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, including fruit, vegetables, lean meats, grains and dairy.
- AMBER foods(select carefully) should be limited in school canteens. These items are mainly processed foods that have had some fat, sugar or salt added to them. Select these foods carefully when putting the menu together and avoid larger serve sizes.
- RED foods (occasionally) are not to be sold from canteens or vending machines in schools. These foods are not essential for a healthy diet because they are typically high in kilojoules, saturated fat, added sugars and salt and can contribute excess energy. Schools should limit the availability of RED category foods to no more than two whole school occasions per term, such as carnivals or fetes (not in the canteen or vending machines).
Students may order their lunch by either:
- Placing their order in a brown paper bag with their name, year and class teacher, order and money and place it in the lunch crate in their classroom. Primary classes will collect their lunch baskets before lunch each day. Secondary students will collect their ordered lunches from the canteen at the beginning of lunch.
- By using the Qkr! App. Orders need to be received by 9:15am each day.
Students can also purchase snacks and drinks over the counter during recess and lunch times.

Health Support
Roxby Downs Area School is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of all students. We acknowledge parent/caregivers retain primary responsibility for their child’s care. This includes the responsibility for providing accurate, up to date, relevant information for staff regarding children’s routine and emergency health care needs. Students will be supported to develop safe, self-management of their health care needs. This will occur with respect of the child’s age and development.
If your child requires health support for a medical condition while they are at school it is important to let the school know as soon as possible. We will require information that will allow us to support your child during their school day and give them the best opportunities to engage in their learning.
Department for Education guidelines require where possible health care plans, management plans, actions plans, first aid plans and medication agreements are completed by a treating health professional to describe individual care recommendations. If your child needs a plan completed by their treating health professionals. Forms are available from the school for a range of health conditions including but not limited to:
- General Health Information
- Epilepsy
- Asthma
- Diabetes
- Allergies
- Anaphylaxis
It is the responsibility of the parent/caregiver to request and ensure all appropriate forms are completed and returned to the school. The relevant forms for completion can be found at: https://www.education.sa.gov.au/supporting-students/health-e-safety-and-wellbeing/health-care-plans
The school will develop in consultation with the student, their family and treating health professionals a health support agreement which will outline the care and support provided to a student during their school day to assist them with their health needs.
If your child requires medication to be administered for a short period of time, regularly or for emergency treatment at school. Further information can be found here: Medication management in education and care services
